Refresh and try again. If these were individual stories, the dangling endings wouldn't be so intolerable, but after the fifth or sixth story in a row, it's really difficult to keep reading. On its own, each story in this collection is a treasure, in which children have minotaurs for fathers or hunt for the ghosts of siblings washed to sea in giant clamshell sleds. It should spark interest in the story and possibly give more information that is relevant to the story. This is not something new and reminds me of the well-worn exclamations – “is that a bird? The only reason this isn't a 5-star is that. Keep reading--a great satire and commentary about kids' cruelty and Catholicism and society's efforts to 100% eradicate all that is wild and free within us. The kids today see the irony/fear in the situation for any of us facing a new surrounding. One was “The Worst You Ever Feel” by Rebecca Makkai because of its great ability to stir an emotional response while placing the reader directly in the scene of the events. . I'm about half-way through this collection of stories and so far they are hilarious. As offbeat as the title suggests, but very funny. This concludes the story very well and expresses a universal and sympathetic prayer of a parent for his/her child in a moment of childhood distress. I would have to say that each of the collections I've read so far have been very vastly different, and this one is probably the most magical realism in tone and imaginative, which sometimes awed me and occasionally lost me. What a great st. This short story lacked basic storytelling qualities that I would expect in any ‘Best’ short story. These stories were compulsively readable, but only one or two of them ended satisfactorily for me. “Vampires” was certainly not one of my choices for ‘Best.’. And the stories are funny and touching and—how rare is this in modern short stories?—. To do this authors commonly use foreshadowing or embed some meaning directly into the title.
